It is reported that Swapalease.com has moved to provide the extra service in a bid to widen its appeal to users who may have ecological concerns when searching for the right leases to trade.

The new green category will "help lease buyers locate vehicles that are making an effort to reduce their ecological footprint," the site reports, adding that it will consider "alternative fuels, emissions, MPG and recyclability".

More companies in the future could consider the benefits of greener vehicles, in particular as London mayor Ken Livingstone looks increasingly likely to raise the capital's congestion charge to a level where some motorists could face a £25 daily fee.
