A generically named auto website has secured two of the most expensive television slots in the advertising sector, it has emerged.

According to Brandweek, Cars.com, a company which provides consumers with online car prices and information on before they head for the forecourt, has acquired two 30-second slots in the break of the 2008 Super Bowl on February 3rd.

It is thought that the advertising space could cost the company around $2.6 million for each slot and the website also reports that Cars.com is mounting an overall campaign that it "is calling the largest in its history".

The campaign is expected to include print and internet marketing as well as television and could significantly boost a company which is already claiming to receive over eight million visitors each month.

Carolyn Crafts, Cars.com's vice president of marketing told Brandweek that the strategy was part of a much wider plan to increase marketing investment and that the company would be spending even more into 2008.

"Our ads on February 3rd won't be our 2008 campaign; rather they'll be the launch of an integrated campaign that will run throughout the year on TV, in print and online," she said.

Cars.com was established in 1998 and lists CareerBuilder.com and Apartments.com as two of its sibling companies.
