This is a rather prickly issue when it comes to charging clients, and some cleaning service providers even refuse to do this. The way to go about it is explaining to the client the need for the first time charges on the cleaning bill. This is because as a first time client, the state of the cleanliness of the work area may prove to be quite a hardship, similar to spring cleaning. With this, one needs extra time for the staff to work on the area to make it spic and span and more equipment and supplies are used to reach this objective. On the average, a cleaning service provider would spend at least four to eight times more work on the work area to make it a clean area.
This begs the question, why is there a need for this. The area to be cleaned would most probably need a top to bottom inspection and build up of deposits around the home would need more time. If one would step in for an existing contractor, the most likely there would be areas that need to be cleaned again and even a third time to make a better cleaning. One’s staff would need to remove the deposits in order that regular maintenance can be undertaken. Each home would be cleaned differently and here are some of the problems one would face when cleaning a home:
A) For bathrooms. Removing hard water stains would be hard to remove from tubs and sinks. Rust build up would occur around the bottom of toilets, and other bath fixtures. Some may even have lime and mold which need to be removed first so that the bathroom can be in a state where maintenance would be retained.
B) For kitchens. Many cracks and other crevices in the kitchen tiles and floors would often be overlooked by cleaning service providers. Many cabinet tops and cupboards, and at the back of refrigerators would often remain undisturbed in their dirt accumulation. Grease deposits and smudged fingerprints would be untouched for long periods of time on stove tops and small appliances. Thus there is a need for a very thorough inspection and clean up so that all the grime and dirt deposits are removed.
C) For quarters. Since it is a clear understanding that people who hired one’s service is too busy to do the job thoroughly. Often, what is seen is what is cleaned and people forget to clean underneath or behind furniture. Dusting is done when there is available time, while other dust accumulating areas such as book cases, sills and other furniture may have accumulated dust over time that needs to be cleaned up.
D) For hallways and walkways. Usually in these areas, corners and nooks are where dust settles. It is thus important to clean them thoroughly as the dirt from the outside comes into the house and even into one’s bedroom.
Removing accumulated soil and grime needs to be done to make the home looking good. Once a thorough cleaning has been done, maintenance would be faster and easier and more cost effective. The need to establish a clean slate in the cleaning business is the reason that the first time clean up is quite a bit more expensive than regular clean ups. This can be stated as the basic clean up or the standard and this would be the clean up to be achieved with each maintenance cleaning schedule.
